I found a blog post introducing an interesting beta app called WorkPlace.io. I haven't gotten my invite to join it yet, but it seems pretty interesting. It's a mobile office management and metrics app.
The post leading me to WorkPlace.io was a bit of a rant that could've used a little more elaboration and research to back up assertions. I think there is research that shows that people are generally just as productive outside the office, but it would be nice to see that referenced in the article.
Although WorkPlace.io looks interesting, I have some doubts about its features for defining promotion timelines. Lots of companies have Teflon road maps or just never plan far enough ahead in order to make use of some of these features.
It will have to have some pretty compelling features and feel unobtrusive when using it. Workers don't want to feel like they're spending significant time putting information into a project management tool that could be spent getting more work done.
