Groundbreaking Solar Power Tower Goes GoogleShelling out over $168,000,000, Google has become a major investor in green technology. The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, slated to be the world's largest solar power plant, will be located in the Mojave Desert. When the plant is completed, it will produce 329MW of clean energy. Google has already invested over $250 million in green technology, and plans on advancing green initiatives in the future.

Gavin King of Red Hat introduced the Ceylon JVM programming language at QCon Beijing. Initial press releases called the new language a "Java Killer." Since, King has posted an article clearing the cloud of debate surrounding Ceylon JVM. He states:

First, I never billed this as a Java Killer or the next generation of the Java language. Not my words. Ceylon isn't Java, it's a new language that's deeply influenced by Java, designed by people who are unapologetic fans of Java. Java's not dying anytime soon, so nothing's killing it.
